Log Periodic and Biconical Antennas

Log periodic antennas are ideal for EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) broadband testing to verify compliance with worldwide regulations and requirements. These antennas are used for both injection RF and monitoring RF emissions in the course of device evaluation and certification. As a directional antenna, log period antennas balance directivity, gain, and a wide bandwidth to amplify the strength of a signal. There are multiple formats of log periodic antennas including zig-zag, slot log, v log, and trapezoidal. The most common format is called log periodic dipole arrays (LPDA). The LPDA integrates multiple dipole elements for a smoother frequency transition, where different dipoles will be activated as the frequency fluctuates. Log periodic antennas can be used within a frequency range of 80 MHz to 7 GHz and are exceptional for shielding effectiveness, site-survey, pre-compliance testing, and full compliance applications.

Biconical antennas are essential for lower frequency EMI (electromagnetic interference) testing for EMC applications including emissions testing, immunity testing, measuring RF shielding efficiency, and more. These antennas gain a broadband frequency with their double-cone design. These cones amplify the signal and enhance conductivity. Biconical antennas operate over the frequency range of 20 MHz to 18 GHz and are effective for FCC, MIL-STD, CISPR, EN, plus other immunity testing standards.

Avalon Test Equipment carries a wide variety of both log periodic and biconical antennas to meet your testing requirements. Rent or purchase from Avalon and Test With Confidence®.
