Light sources are an essential tool when measuring fiber optic continuity, loss, and quality, whether testing in the field or lab. Fiber optic signals can be affected for many different reasons. A low signal can cause a no connectivity issue. An optical light source allows technicians to insert light into one end of the fiber and measure its signal strength at the endpoint. If the technician identifies that the power is low after performing the test, it could mean that there is a fiber defect blocking the signal (i.e. a macrobend, fiber break, or bad connector). In these cases, more in-depth testing is required to locate the fault.
Avalon Test Equipment carries a variety of light sources from top manufacturers (EXFO, VIAVI, and more) to meet your testing requirements. Rent or purchase from Avalon and Test With Confidence®.
